Airbus announced the effectiveness of Jürgen Westermeier’s appointment as its future President and Managing Director for India and South Asia with effect from September 1, 2025. The succession is as part of the company’s long-term plan to further reinforce its expansion in one of its fastest-growing markets. Westermeier will replace Rémi Maillard, who has moved to a global position based on engineering and technological innovation in commercial aircraft business.
Westermeier joins with further than two decades of transnational assiduity experience, most lately as Airbus’ principal Procurement Officer, where he was necessary in streamlining procurement sweats and perfecting functional effectiveness. His expansive artificial engineering background and leadership of large- scale product and force chain operations positions him immaculately for this new position.
Westermeier is assuming his new position of heading Airbus business strategy in India and South Asia. His mandate is to push commercial aircraft sales, enhance customer service, steer defence and helicopter operations, and enhance digital, training, and engineering activities in the region.
India has become a center of operations of Airbus on the international level, particularly with its leaning towards the ‘Make in India’ campaign. Westermeier will be leading Airbus’s industrial presence in the region by local partnerships, capacity development programs, and local production expansion. His task will be essential as Airbus plans to go deeper into the Indian aviation sector and modernize India’s defense and civil aviation development.
