Microsoft marked a significant milestone on March 8, 2025, with the groundbreaking ceremony of its new India Development Centre (IDC) campus in Noida, Sector 145. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attended the event, highlighting the importance of the project for the region’s technological growth.
The new IDC campus will span 15 acres and feature 1.1 million square feet of built-up space. The facility is designed to drive innovation in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and cybersecurity, aligning with Microsoft’s vision to enhance India’s position in the global AI sector.
Rajiv Kumar, Managing Director and President of Microsoft IDC, emphasized that the new campus would play a critical role in advancing responsible AI innovation. “This facility will attract top talent from India and beyond, empowering them to create solutions that positively impact billions of lives worldwide,” he stated. Microsoft’s commitment to AI and digital transformation in India is evident as the company seeks to strengthen its footprint and contribute to the nation’s AI-first ambitions.
In addition to its Noida campus, Microsoft operates development centres in Hyderabad and Bengaluru, further solidifying its presence in India. Kumar expressed gratitude for the support received from the Government of Uttar Pradesh and the Noida Authority, which were instrumental in bringing the project to fruition. This announcement follows a significant meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella in January, where Nadella revealed plans for a $3 billion investment to bolster India’s AI and cloud infrastructure, marking the company’s largest-ever expansion in the country.
