Background

Vodafone Idea shares are anticipated to continue to be in the spotlight due to the firm’s latest update on the enhancement of its subscriber base. The telecom services company has been recording a growth of above one lakh subscribers in the month of March, becoming the second consecutive month in which they have seen an addition to their subscriber base.

It should be noted that the telecom company had recorded losses in the subscriber base for almost five years before this trend reversed. Market participants will now closely track the company’s fourth-quarter earnings, which could act as the next key trigger for the stock’s movement.

During the December quarter, the company reported a narrower net loss on a sequential basis. But this was achieved largely owing to a remarkable surge in excess of ₹1,000 crore. At the same time, the ARPU of the company saw a marginal increase of 3% to ₹172.

The market is also keeping an eye on the possible effect that the recently granted AGR relief could have on the company’s financial standing in the coming results.

As of the end of the third quarter, Vodafone Idea held a cash balance of nearly ₹7,000 crore. At the same time, it continued to carry a significant spectrum liability exceeding ₹1.2 lakh crore. In the next year, it faces repayments towards banks and spectrum dues.

Despite recent developments, analyst sentiment remains mixed, with a higher number of “sell” ratings compared to “buy” and “hold” recommendations. The stock continues to trade below its follow-on public offer price and has declined notably so far this year.
