Amazon Chief Executive Officer Andy Jassy visited India, meeting Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and top business leaders while touring an Amazon Now micro-fulfilment centre in a visit that highlighted the company’s growing ambitions in the country.

Jassy and Fadnavis discussed Amazon’s expanding footprint in Maharashtra, home to several key operations including the first India infrastructure region of Amazon Web Services and a large technology and operations workforce in Mumbai and Pune.

Talks covered how Amazon’s investments in cloud, artificial intelligence, e-commerce and logistics are helping local businesses scale and access global markets.

The two also discussed Amazon Prime Video’s creative operations, which are based in Mumbai. The platform produces original Indian content that reaches audiences across more than 240 countries and territories.

Speaking to business leaders, Jassy called artificial intelligence the most transformational technology of his lifetime. He said India is on track to become one of the most significant markets for AI-led innovation, citing the country’s engineering talent and rapid digital adoption as key drivers.

Jassy also toured an Amazon Now micro-fulfilment centre. The company said it plans to expand the quick-commerce service to more than 300 Indian cities.

Amazon Now has doubled its order volumes every quarter since launch, making it the fastest-growing unit in Amazon India’s history. The model, first built in India, is now being rolled out in several international markets.

During the facility visit, Amazon announced Sammaan, a welfare programme for delivery associates offering health and life insurance, and educational scholarships for their children.
