The greenfield city was planned in such a manner that it would occupy 886 acres of land, with a total master plan of about 62 million square feet of built-up space distributed amongst office towers, residential flats, schools, hospitals, hotels, and retail space. It was designed as a “walk to work” city by incorporating utility tunnels, district cooling system, and automatic waste management into the city’s infrastructure and not constructing them later on. This development project has become the first International Financial Services Centre of India by bringing major banks, insurance companies, and fintech firms in one regulatory structure. Until 2018, there have been allotments of 15 million square feet of the area and the cumulative investment commitments in the project were valued at around ₹105 billion as stated by the former CEO of GIFT City, Ajay Pandey. Looking Ahead
