In an important move in the company’s efforts to transform learning through AI, OpenAI appointed Raghav Gupta to be the head of its education initiatives for India and the Asia-Pacific. In this role, he will supervise the efforts to implement AI in the classrooms and develop new online education patterns.

He will closely work with institutions such as IIT Madras, AICTE, and the Ministry of Education. An important role to play will include assisting in the research activities on the impact of AI on the cognitive abilities and the overall learning achievement of students.

Raghav Gupta brings over 20 years of leadership experience in consulting, technology, entrepreneurship, and education. Before OpenAI, he was Managing Director of India and Asia Pacific at Coursera, where he helped millions of people across the globe access quality education to succeed in consumer and enterprise business.

His academic career is equally diverse. He earned a Mechanical Engineering degree from Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, studied Fashion Business Management at NIFT Delhi, and later pursued an MBA from INSEAD, France. He also took advanced courses in Game Theory at Brown University and Finance at Emory University.

Earlier, Raghav Gupta worked as President at Technopak Advisors, Principal at Booz & Company (now Strategy&), and Country Manager for BlaBlaCar in India. He subsequently established Futurense, an AI-skilling firm aimed at equipping the Indian labour force with skills of the future.

He, with his international exposure and significant knowledge of the education and technology sectors, will help OpenAI establish India as a powerful centre of AI-enhanced learning and develop new avenues of creating value to students and educators in the region.
