Background

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is heading a high-level Indian business delegation to Athens, where the group will attend presentations and startup pitches at The Athens Startup Business Incubator (THEA). The visit aims to put next-generation Indian enterprises in front of Greek counterparts and build cross-border innovation partnerships.

The delegation will sit down with Indian and Greek industry leaders at the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) for roundtable discussions spanning infrastructure, digitalisation, defence, and food and agriculture. The talks are meant to surface fresh collaboration opportunities and solidify private-sector ties between the two countries.

Beyond the conference rooms, the delegation will tour a number of Greek businesses to look at joint work in advanced manufacturing and technology sectors, with an eye on building stronger industrial links.

India’s Commerce Ministry said the Athens programme would draw together key stakeholders from both sides to explore investment and commercial partnership opportunities across priority sectors, and that the engagements would work towards deeper industry links and broader bilateral trade.

India sent goods worth $1.19 billion to Greece in 2024, while Greek imports into India came to $170 million. Both governments want to double that trade figure by 2030. An anticipated free trade deal between India and the European Union is expected to give those numbers an additional push.

India plans to build long-term economic relationships with European partners through such direct business engagement.
