Background
Oil Green Energy Ltd (OGEL), which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of OIL, has entered into a joint venture with Hindustan Waste Treatment Pvt Ltd (HWT) for developing projects related to energy from bio-waste and sustainable waste management in India. The agreement was signed in the last week of May.
Under the agreement, both companies will create a 50:50 joint venture company that will focus on compressed biogas (CBG), waste-to-energy projects and sustainable resource recovery infrastructure. The partnership aims to support India’s clean energy goals and strengthen circular economy initiatives.
The proposed joint venture will identify and develop projects in different parts of the country. The businesses want to work on integrated waste-to-energy plants, CBG production facilities, and other sustainable infrastructure projects related to waste management and the production of renewable energy.
OGEL was created to expand OIL’s presence in renewable and green energy businesses. Oil India Limited operates across the hydrocarbon sector, including exploration, production and transportation of crude oil and natural gas, while also increasing investments in clean and renewable energy opportunities.
HWT brings technical and operational expertise in municipal solid waste-based bioenergy projects. The company has experience in designing, building and operating such facilities in India. It has also deployed advanced global bioenergy technologies under Indian conditions, including a municipal solid waste-based biogas plant in North Goa that has operated for more than a decade.
According to representatives of both businesses, the collaboration will help India achieve its objectives of sustainable development and energy independence. They added that the collaboration combines OGEL’s energy sector strength with HWT’s waste-to-energy expertise to build scalable clean energy solutions in the country.
