Background
Tata Motors has expanded its vehicle recycling network by opening a new Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF) in Patna, Bihar. With this addition, the company now operates 12 vehicle scrapping centres across India. The new facility, named Re.Wi.Re (Recycle With Respect), can dismantle up to 15,000 end-of-life vehicles every year. It is spread across 5.5 acres and is operated by the Kalahanu Bothra Group.
The facility will dismantle vehicles of all brands and segments, including passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, two-wheelers and three-wheelers. It follows the National Vehicle Scrappage Policy, which promotes the scientific recycling of old and unfit vehicles while encouraging owners to replace them with safer and more fuel-efficient models.
Bihar Transport Minister Damodar Rawat said the new facility would support safer roads and a cleaner transport system in the state. He added that it would help remove old vehicles in a responsible manner and strengthen the organised vehicle recycling ecosystem.
Rajesh Kaul, Vice President and Business Head – Trucks at Tata Motors, said the Patna facility marked another step in building an organised system for managing end-of-life vehicles. He stated that the company now has the country’s widest network of registered vehicle scrapping facilities, with the capacity to responsibly dismantle nearly two lakh vehicles every year. He added that the initiative reflects Tata Motors’ focus on the principles of the circular economy.
The Re.Wi.Re facility operates through a fully digital and paperless process. It uses different dismantling methods for passenger and commercial vehicles and has dedicated stations to safely handle tyres, batteries, fuel, oils, liquids and gases while ensuring every vehicle is properly documented before dismantling.
