Background-
Business leaders and CEOs in Sweden expressed strong interest in expanding ties with India during a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). The discussions took place during the European CEO round table hosted by Volvo Group in Sweden.
MEA Secretary (West) Sibi George said senior industry leaders appreciated India’s economic transformation and reforms carried out over the past several years. He said many CEOs shared positive views about the changes they had seen in India and showed interest in deeper business cooperation with the country. The business leaders also discussed opportunities for future partnerships, investment growth and technology collaboration across sectors.
The meeting brought together Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and representatives from major European and Indian companies. The talks focused on strengthening economic ties, increasing collaboration in different sectors and creating long-term business opportunities between India and Europe.
The visit also included a cultural exchange linked to Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. The Swedish Prime Minister presented PM Modi with replicas of handwritten epigrams by Tagore, along with a photograph from his visit to Uppsala University in the early twentieth century.
In return, PM Modi gifted a collection of Tagore’s works and a handcrafted Shanti Niketan bag designed to support local artisans and traditional craft work.
The MEA said the interaction reflected growing confidence among European businesses in India’s economic growth, policy reforms and long-term market potential.
