Shuchita Sonalika has been named the first Chief Operating Officer of the Canada-India Business Council (C-IBC), marking a significant leadership milestone as bilateral investment relations between the two nations continue to strengthen.
A senior international affairs leader with close to two decades of experience, Sonalika has spent her career advancing India’s economic partnerships across North America, Europe and other global markets.
C-IBC President and CEO Victor Thomas said the appointment strengthens the council’s capacity and positions it to play a more consequential role in a rapidly evolving economic corridor.
Sonalika most recently served as Director and Head for North America at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in Washington, D.C., and earlier led CII’s operations in the United Kingdom, giving her broad exposure to India’s trade priorities across multiple regions.
She expressed enthusiasm about working closely with the council’s board, members and partners across Canada and India to help realize the relationship’s tremendous potential.
Sonalika holds a Master’s degree in Public Policy and Management and a Bachelor’s degree in General Business and Management, both from the University of Maryland.
C-IBC Board Chair Craig Brown said few professionals bring Sonalika’s institutional experience, understanding of India’s business and policy landscape, and global perspective, adding that her passion, expertise and leadership make her the right fit for the council at this scale.
Founded in 1982, the Canada-India Business Council works to strengthen bilateral economic ties between the two countries.
