Background:
India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd. has officially entered India’s fast-growing electric two-wheeler segment with the launch of its first electric scooter, the EC-06. Priced at ₹1.67 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the new model marks a significant step for the Japanese two-wheeler major as it expands its portfolio beyond internal combustion and hybrid offerings in the country.
The EC-06 will be available initially in select cities through Yamaha’s Blue Square dealerships and will be offered in a Bluish White colour option. According to the company, the scooter has been developed in India with a focus on daily urban commuting, combining range, practicality and connected features.
Yamaha claims a certified riding range of 169 km on a single charge.
The scooter can be charged using a normal home plug and takes about eight hours for a full charge. The motor and battery are water- and dust-resistant with an IP67 rating, while other electronic parts are rated IP65.
The EC-06 offers three riding modes, Eco, Standard and Power, allowing riders to choose between efficiency and performance. A Reverse Mode has also been added to assist with low-speed manoeuvring in tight parking spaces. Suspension duties are handled by telescopic front forks with hydraulic dampers and a rear coil spring unit. Braking is managed by 200 mm disc brakes at both ends, supported by a Combi Brake System.
The EC-06 features LED headlamps and tail lamps, along with a colour LCD display. The scooter also supports smartphone connectivity through the Yamaha Motor Connect R app, which shows real-time riding details and other useful information. It offers 24.5 litres of under-seat storage.
With the EC-06, Yamaha is boosting its presence in India’s electric vehicle market and promoting cleaner transport.
